There's a fun story about love, KALX, Berkeley, Fugazi, and the Gilman on KEXP Seattle's blog.

Jonathan Lethem's latest novel "The Fortress of Solitude" includes a fictional character who DJs at KALX Berkeley. The book also references real live KALX DJs like Gail Warning, Marshall Stax, and Sex for Teens! A recent review of the book can be found at the SF Chronicle website.

Grateful Dead music video for the song "Touch of Grey" (at 2 minutes 28 seconds) - fan in the audience that tosses a rose into one of the band members mouth is wearing the KALX "discus throw" T-Shirt.
