Join KALX at Great American Music Hall Thursday, August 7, for a night of unfettered and filter-free indie folk rock.
Ezra Furman’s most recent release—her tenth studio album—Goodbye Small Head (Bella Union) is inspired by “the experience of completely losing control, whether by weakness, illness, mysticism, BDSM, drugs, heartbreak, or just living in a sick society with one’s eyes open.” Furman came out as a transgender woman in 2021, recorded much of the soundtrack to the four-season Netflix series Sex Education, and has crafted a deeply and defiantly personal style of folk rock. “These songs are vivid with overwhelm. I was trying to exist in and create a shared space with my audience, make anthems for taking care of one another in dark times. But there does come a time when a woman is left alone in a room to unravel. And you need music for those times, too.”
Opening the night are midwestern art rockers The Ophelias, “a joyfully queer band with predominantly queer and trans members (who) take pride both in their identities and vocally supporting queer & trans rights.” The Cincinnati crew’s latest record, produced by Julien Baker, is out now.
The Great American Music Hall is located at 859 O’Farrell Street in San Francisco.
The event is all ages (6+) and the venue is wheelchair accessible. Please contact the venue 1-2 days ahead of the event if ADA assistance required and they’ll be happy to help.
