DJ Queen Bee has taken control of this week’s Why Baby Why show for an episode on Bay Area queer country artists. Our featured artists are Shawna Virago and the Secret Emchy Society. Shawna Virago is a local queer country artist with poetic lyrics and a style tinged with folk and punk edges. Their latest record, Blood in her Dreams, is out now. The Secret Emchy Society is an international collective of musicians based around local bandleader Cindy Emch, who has been called the “First Lady of queer country”. The group will be performing as a pared-down version with Clinton Cleveland on guitar and Cindy on guitar and vocals. The group also put a 2024 record out into the world, you can find Whiskey Flight on Bandcamp.
Both acts were previously recorded live in the KALX studio by DJs Queen Bee and Penny Royal in June. DJs Queen Bee and Eli Messinger worked on the production. The show runs this Friday, August 9th, from 12pm to 1am. We hope you will enjoy this unique episode of Why Baby Why!
