Last Will takes control of Round Midnight, our weekly Jazz specialty show, when Friday becomes Becomes on October 12th. He’ll be bringing you an oversized edition of nothing but “Round Midnight” itself. You’ll hear two full hours of different renditions of the Thelonius Monk composition in honor of the 107th anniversary of his birth (October 10, 1917).
The 1943 composition, now a Jazz standard, was first recorded by Monk in 1947. The very first recording of “Round Midnight” was three years prior in 1944 by Cootie Williams and his orchestra. There’s now around 20 known recordings from Monk and well over 50 versions recorded by other artists. We politely refuse to let you know what Last Will might feature during the block so you’ll have to tune in to experience it for yourself.
This show is dedicated to DJ Megasoup.
