Flaminia Catteruccia on Spectrum

On Friday, March 22nd @ noon Flaminia Catteruccia, Associate Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases; Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Harvard School of Public Health will be interviewed on Spectrum.

Malaria is a leading cause of death in tropical and subtropical regions. The Plasmodium parasite that causes malaria is transmitted by the biting of female Anopheles mosquitoes.  Dr. Catteruccia’s group studies the molecular basis of mating and reproduction in both the female and male Anopheles gambiae mosquito.  They are looking for the most effective and robust strategies to frustrate mosquito reproduction.  Overall they aim to provide insight into the reproductive biology of this malaria vector, which until recently remain largely unstudied, so that new targets for vector control can be developed.
