Rip Florence is an Oakland & Santa Cruz based freak folk/art punk singer-songwriter whose lo-fi, outsider music blends Syd Barrett’s whimsy, Olivia Tremor Control’s sonic maximalism, and Beat Happening’s raw art-rock edge. He’s played living room shows from New York to Limerick, Ireland; opened for acts like King Tuff and Peter Stampfel (The Holy Modal Rounders/The Fugs), and runs aberrant micro-label Shallow Dive Records. His last album, Berlin Bloos!, was a collection of dystopian folk demos recorded in Berlin while isolating with CoVid-19 in Dr. Rudi’s guestroom. Rip’s ethos is rooted in radical creativity, counter-hegemony, and the playful pursuit of understanding through weirdo art & ugly music as praxis.
Bartleby will host a live in-studio session on Monday, April 28th during his 6-8pm show.
