On Saturday, June 20th at 4pm, Shrimp Mocktail speaks with Charles Spearin and Kevin Drew of Canadian indie rock band, Broken Social Scene, ahead of their 2 shows at The Masonic in SF on June 21st and 22nd.
Broken Social Scene is a musical collective including as few as six and as many as nineteen members, formed by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. Most of its members play in various other groups and solo projects, mainly in the city of Toronto.
The band has returned with their new album, Remember The Humans, via Arts & Crafts. The LP, their first in nearly a decade, is a return to family, reuniting Broken Social Scene with David Newfeld, producer of the seminal You Forgot It In People and Broken Social Scene. It is the sound of a band deepening rather than reinventing, exploring the emotional implications of forms they have spent over 20 years shaping. In a culture defined by abstraction and distance, BSS have made a record that insists that we remember each other, that we remember the human.
