Join DJ Donut Monoxide on Wednesday February 7th @ 4:30pm when she airs a recent interview of Bay Area “Super Group” Mariachi band Con Permiso recorded ahead of their in-store performance at Down Home Music on Saturday, February 10th .
Eclectic, organic, and sometimes reverent, Con Permiso combines homespun vocals with vihuela, bass, accordion, violin, percussion, and blendy horns to deliver non-standard interpretations and translations of standard mariachi repertoire while using the genre’s traditional instrumentation as a springboard for their explorations of obscure cover tunes and originals. Songs about unrequited love, gossips, carousers, popes, and drug lords—in styles ranging from cumbias to rancheras to huapangos to Norteños and beyond—keep audiences grooving and hips moving.
The Performing members of Con Permiso originate from previous bands: Spot 1019, Cat Heads, SF Seals, Wannabe Texans, Mingo 2000, Stymie, and Hobbit NYC.
