November 25th, 2025: the Regency Ballroom lineup is full to the brim with distinct, fresh, and fun forms of electronic music. With femtanyl the first to perform, the crowd already began enthusiastic mosh pits, loudly shouting along to “KATAMARI,” a noisy song that sounds (in the best possible way) like being put into a blender. If you enjoy 100 gecs, femtanyl delivers a lot of strong vocals reminiscent of those Laura Les has on “haunted” or “100 db cloud.” femtanyl, formerly just a solo project of the lead vocalist, Noelle, embraces chaotic, bloody visuals using her various characters (Token and Lottery). Unfortunately, it was a little difficult to hear Noelle’s vocals, but she was fun to watch as she whirled and jumped across the stage. ISSBROKIE, a Bay Area rap artist, made a surprise appearance to perform their collaboration, “NASTYWERKKKK!.”
Next, out stepped solo electronic artist underscores, with her hair bleached to seem like a pair of headphones was sitting on top. I suspect this is a homage to visuals of 2000s early internet music culture (think of those colorful silhouette iPod commercials). underscores made great use of the projector behind the stage, showing lyrics to her songs. “Locals (Girls like us)” somehow sounded both like hyperpop and the next big Kesha hit merged into one. She also recently featured on oklou’s album Choke Enough, and performed “Harvest Sky.” “Spoiled little brat” off the album fishmonger is a scattering of ska-adjacent guitar, featuring chirpy, bloopy electronic sounds and vocals.
Finally, the headliner, Danny Brown. The stage had an interesting LED lit cube surrounding him, and backlight lighting that created a silhouette effect the further away you stood. Concertgoers shouting the lyrics to “Smokin and Drinkin” was audible even from up above in the way back of the balcony, and it is clear that both the crowd and the artist were having an excellent amount of fun. While it was a little harder to see if you were far away due to the nature of the lights, there was certainly no issue with the sound. “SCARING THE HOES” was another highlight of the set, with ISSBROKIE re-emerging afterwards for the energetic “Whatever the Case” followed suit by “1l0v3myl1f3!” with femtanyl, and both “Copycats” and “Baby” with underscores. With Danny Brown’s newest album “Starburst” containing many features, it made sense to include as many of them as was possible on the tour, creating a cast of returning artists that unified different styles into a coherent setlist. Scrumptious lineup and an absolute feast of a show.
