KALX’s public affairs show, The Graduates, is a finalist in this year’s “Best Regularly Scheduled Entertainment Program” in CBI’s National Student Production Awards. Andrew Saintsing, the producer of The Graduates, is a graduate student in the Department of Integrative Biology.
The episode nominated for the award features an interview with Katie Keliiaa from the Department of Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley. Katie studies the Bay Area Outing Program, an early twentieth century assimilation program which took Native American women out of their tribal lands and brought them to the Bay Area to perform domestic work.
