On Monday, November 2nd at 8:15pm, Vixen airs the first ever public interview of both members of Headache — the enigmatic UK duo of Joe Thornalley, better known as Vegyn, and writer and lyricist, Francis Hornsby Clarke, before they play San Francisco on November 14th at The Regency Ballroom.
Headache is a lot of things. He is a character in his own right, described by Joe and Francis as a posh, upper-class British actor with few redeemable qualities who you would be just as likely to find digging in the trash as courting “the worst woman in the world.” Headache is also subtly melancholic, addictively melodic rave music produced by Joe and paired with a text-to-speech-generated voice performing spoken word lyrics written by Francis that reflect the consciousness of Headache, the character.
In the end, Headache is whatever you want it, or him, to be, determined by a liberty of interpretation that Joe and Francis encourage their listeners to indulge in rather than agonize over. Is Headache the story of a man in purgatory after a mortal overdose? The nonsensical ramblings of the worst person in the world? The narrated spiritual transcendence of someone learning that the only thing left to do, is dance? You’ll have to listen to him speak and find out for yourself.
