Frontal Lobe will be hosting an in-studio performance and interview from avant-garde experimental ensemble Insect Life on Sunday, October 26th at 2pm.
Born from weekly collaborative sessions at clarinetist Ben Goldberg’s house, Insect Life is an Oakland-based experimental ensemble dedicated to pushing the boundaries of improvised music. The band emphasizes spontaneity, orchestral cohesion, and an adventurous sonic palette that fuses avant-garde and abstract elements.
Insect Life is set to release their self-titled debut album via 577 Records on November 7th, 2025. Enhancing the record’s depth, Zachary James Watkins (Black Spirituals, Foreign/Domestic, and KALX Live! alum) contributes remixes as a guest member for this album, complementing the ensemble’s expansive sonic landscape.
This performance will feature Ben Goldberg on clarinet, Raffi Garabedian on tenor saxophone, Danny Lubin-Laden on trombone, Myra Melford on keys, Ben Davis on cello, and Hamir Atwal on the drums.
