On Friday, April 7th @ 10:30 AM, Jon The Reptilian welcomes back singer/guitarist, Harrison Stafford, from the Northern California reggae-jazz fusion group, Groundation. Tune in to hear Stafford play a handful of live acoustic songs, discuss reggae history, and share details about his band’s upcoming show at The Chapel in SF on Wednesday, April 12th that will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the group’s album, Hebron Gate.
Bursting forth from their underground status, Groundation has taken the music world by storm. Capturing the essence and drive of true roots reggae, the widely renowned band takes the art form to new heights by blending elements of jazz, funk, salsa, soul and transcendental dub in a progressive amalgam of sound all their own.
Groundation formed in 1998 when Stafford started a roots reggae/jazz fusion group with fellow students at the Jazz Performance program at Sonoma State University. Stafford’s interest and knowledge of the reggae genre led to him developing and offering a course he taught at Sonoma State called “The History of Reggae Music.” Reggae legends like Joseph Hill of Culture and historical icons like Abba Melchezadek (Haile Selassie’s private secretary) amongst others came and shared their personal experiences with the classes.
