Interview With David Harrington of Kronos Quartet

Posted on February 20, 2024

On Monday, February 26th @ 2pm, David Harrington of Kronos Quartet, joins Velvet Einstein in the KALX studios to discuss 50 years of Kronos and share some of his favorite music.

The Kronos Quartet will be performing in Berkeley on March 2nd at Zellerbach Hall for Cal Performances.

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Bay Area’s own Kronos Quartet—the groundbreaking ensemble that helped reinvent the string quartet for our global, connected, contemporary world through cross-cultural and cross-genre collaborations, ambitious commissioning projects, and enduring partnerships with living composers.

This special celebration features a world premiere commissioned for Kronos’ anniversary from Indonesian composer Peni Candra Rini, who was among the artists selected to participate in Kronos Fifty for the Future, the visionary initiative that commissioned 50 international composers to create scores made available as a resource at no cost for future generations of string quartet players. Her new work includes shadow puppets, original artwork, and field recordings inspired by musical environments and cultures across the Indonesian archipelago. Rini will join the Kronos members here for the world premiere.
