Known for exploring avant-garde realms frequented by Loren Mazzacane Conners, Sandy Bull and John Fahey, Minneapolis guitarist John Saint Pelvyn’s recent work moved away from his former blues stride style in favor of oceanic waves of strumming, rich quivering whammy bar wobble and sheets of shimmering feedback which he seems to harvest from the air using his guitar like a musical dowsing rod. He accompanies himself with otherworldly vocal abstractions, alternating between a haunting countertenor, polyphonic overtones and throat singing.
Following 2017 and 2018 releases on Seeland/Electromice Records and Wooden Leg Print & Press, Saint Pelvyn celebrates a recent Astral Edition release Solo Guitar and Voice, gracing the KALX studios with a live set in advance of a Wednesday, December 4 appearance at Oakland’s own Shapeshifters Cinema.
