On Monday, May 18th at 4pm, Test Pattern welcomes Bay Area drummer / percussionist / improvisor / composer / conductor / bandleader, Jordan Glenn, to the KALX studios for a live interview.
Jordan Glenn spent his formative years in Oregon drawing cartoons, taking dance classes from his aunt, and putting on plays with his sisters. As he got older he began making movies with his friends and listening to lots of jazz, classical, and rock music.
In 2006 he relocated to the Bay Area and since then has worked closely with Fred Frith (Fremakajo, FF Trio, Gravity Band), William Winant, Zeena Parkins (The Adorables), Roscoe Mitchell, Ben Goldberg, Todd Sickafoose, John Schott, Lisa Mezzacappa (avantNOIR, Glorious Ravage, Lisa Mezzacappa Six), Myra Melford, Motoko Honda, Michael Coleman, and the bands Jack o’ the Clock, Kyle Bruckmann’s Degradient, and the collectives Sifter (with Rob Ewing, Beth Schenck and Lisa Mezzacappa) and flatways (with Matt Robidoux and Sudhu Tewari).
He has also worked with Rhys Chatham, Secret Chiefs 3, Rova Sax Quartet, the Red Room Orchestra and has been commissioned to create scores for evening-length dance pieces by Sharp & Fine and Liss Fain Dance.
Jordan is an active improvisor performing in countless configurations as well as solo. As a leader he has composed and directed the trio Wiener Kids and its ten piece expansion, The Wiener Kids Family Band, as well as the percussion-heavy large ensemble BEAK.
