Tune in on Sunday, April 26th at 1pm PST to hear a conversation between Frontal Lobe and JustinTuân Smith, executive producer on the feature documentary, Y Vân: The Lost Sounds of Saigon.
Making its long-awaited Bay Area premiere at Doclands Film Festival in San Rafael on Friday, May 1st at 7pm, Y Vân tells the epic story of the eponymous legendary Vietnamese composer, and his granddaughter Khoa as she journeys to uncover and preserve his lost music. A story told across three generations, Y Vân: The Lost Sounds of Saigon brings to life the golden age of Saigon and uncovers a timeless tale of love, music and family.
Executive producer Tuân Smith is a creative multi-hyphenate, SmartBomb Oakland mainstay, and core resident of San Francisco’s legendary Change the Beat crew. For the past 25 years, his varied DJ narratives have been a direct reflection of his unique, lifelong musical adventure: a classical violin child prodigy raised in a traditional jazz household, only to be corrupted by SoCal punk, reformed by the 90’s Westcoast underground hip-hop movement, rinsed by illegal drum n bass raves, and profoundly affected by the heavy drums and experimental sounds of vintage psychedelic rock.
