Black Belt Eagle Scout, aka Katherine Paul, is a queer, indigenous indie artist. Her debut album Mother of My Children (2018) garnered praise from NPR Music, Stereogum, and Paste, and it was named “Best Rock Album of 2018” by Pitchfork.
Her new record At the Party With My Brown Friends, out on Saddle Creek 8/30, is a profound and understated forward step. The squalling guitar anthems that shaped its predecessor are replaced by delicate vocals and soft keys, sentiments spoken and unspoken, presenting something shadowy and unsettling; a stirring of the waters.
