KALX invites you to a night of tropical psychedelia on September 14th with Sonido Gallo Negro at The Chapel in San Francisco. Additional event information can be found at The Chapel’s website here.
Hailing from San Juan de Aragón, a pueblo in Mexico City, Sonido Gallo Negro (Black Rooster Sound) fuses traditional Latin American rhythms driven by an eclectic range of theremins, guitars, analog synthesizers, and eccentric organs. Sonido Gallo Negro cultivates an exotic air of rarity in their performances that forces dancing to exhaustion as they deliver otherworldly futuristic interpretations of cumbia with a strong foundation of indie rock, surf, and neo-psych sounds. Hypnotic, lysergic visuals accompany the band on stage as bandmember Dr. Alderete illustrates the band’s performance in real time.
Active since 2010, Sonido Gallo Negro’s musical alchemy is varied with influences of kitschy spaghetti westerns, traditional folklore, cosmic interpretations of Kraftwek and the B-52s, and strong lyrical homages to resistance and resilence.
The Chapel is located at 777 Valencia, San Francisco, CA 94110.
All ages & wheelchair accessible.
Doors: 7:00pm, Show: 8:00pm
