KÁRYYN Interview

Posted on March 12, 2024

Armenian-American vocalist, songwriter, composer/producer and multimedia artist, KÁRYYN, will join Massari on Thursday, March 14th @ 4:20pm for a discussion about her upcoming new EP for Mute Records, Calm KAOSS!.

Born in the prolific period following her European tour, Calm KAOSS! was created in partnership with British record producer James Ford (Blur, Haim, Gorillaz, Depeche Mode, Florence & The Machine). The project sees KÁRYYN commune with her past, present and future selves, traveling through time to reveal transformative premonitions from the future in scientific and spiritual language.

KÁRYYN’s composition process is rooted in a communion between her past, present and future selves. Where the previous release, The QUANTA Series, was so much about examining her memories, Calm KAOSS! would focus on the future.

“I wanted to explore the sound of coming into my body, so I was eager to explore bass, repetitive rhythms and modular synthesis.  Something that wasn’t living in the ethereal, nostalgic space like QUANTA”, KÁRYYN explains.
