Tune in on Monday, July 20th at 6pm when Roscoe 2000 hosts Columbus, Ohio band. Moviola, for a live in-studio performance and interview ahead of their show at Thee Stork Club in Oakland on July 21st.
Moviola is a music and art-making collective of five friends that started in Columbus in 1993, who have released full-length records, singles, videos, and multimedia shows that run the gamut, an inimitable mix of early 4-track fuzz-pop to present-day hi-fi soul, country, and many lands in between. Listening to them will improve your life, simple as that.
In 2025 they released their 11th and latest album, Earthbound on Dromedary Records.
“Attempts to categorize Moviola, in aggregate or even on an album by album basis, is impossibly slippery: their diversity has summoned up comparisons from NRBQ to Teenage Fanclub, Guided by Voices to Neil Young. Under an awning roughly defined by the Midwest lo-fi aesthetic, what repeatedly jumps out is the audible commitment to staying casual, trying things out and making them work in whatever framework a song summons.
Moviola is never silly, as some of their peers have been, but their seriousness is never ponderous or off-puttingly weird. If that suggests that they hew to a safe lane, they don’t; they appear to have a gyroscopic ability to keep their balance even while leaning way over. Fans of Elephant 6 and Pavement will find lots to like in the band’s extensive catalogue of unpretentious genre-defying guitar rock.” – Trouser Press
