This week on KALX Live! your host Jon the Reptilian brings a two act night of music to the studio. Tune in at 9pm on Saturday, April 4, for a live set featuring Nomezee followed by Nekron 99 along with interviews with each and flashbacks courtesy of the KALX Live! archive throughout the night going all the way to midnight.
Nekron 99 is a creature rock band from Fairfax, CA, formed in 2021 by frontman/visual artist Amin al-Jamal and guitarist-producer Nick Brown. With guitarist Gaelen McKee, bassist Noah Hornick and drummer Will Roth, Nekron 99 has played venues around the Bay Area since 2023, including The Phoenix Theater, The Knockout, Art House Gallery, and Revolution 9. Their sound is a mix of progressive rock, electronic, metal, and pop, with a unique character defined by lyricist Amin al-Jamal’s background in creature design & entomology. Their first album, Visions of the Trapdoor Man, was released in 2024. The band are currently recording their second album, Love in the Age of Mutation, planned for release in late summer 2026.
Nomezee is the solo project of Noah Hornick, a virtuosic bass player and composer in the Bay Area. For this show they teamed up with two more “exceptionally wizard” musicians: Nuxia Peng on keys and vox and Jacob Gilmore on drums. Together their music is as demanding as it is serene, deriving influence from Aphex Twin, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Steve Reich, and Pink Floyd. Noah is scheduled to release their first album, KRATKARATRAKAT next January; A surreal, eerily tangible concept album based on Noah’s own nightmares. Their music is currently available for listening on YouTube, Soundcloud, and Bandcamp.
