Tune in to The Graduates this Tuesday @ 9AM for an interview with Kavena “Kav” Hambira from the Department of Art Practice. Kav is a contemporary Namibian artist who uses film to document social injustices. Although he initially came to the US to pursue an unrelated degree, he was inspired to take up a camera following Trayvon Martin’s death and George Zimmerman’s acquittal. He has since worked on a documentary about activist Cephus Johnson, which can be viewed on his website and through the Department of Art Practice’s online gallery.
The Graduates, featuring graduate student research at Cal, is broadcast every other Tuesday on KALX 90.7 FM. Past episodes are available to listen and download free on iTunes or online. This episode of The Graduates is hosted by Andrew Saintsing, a PhD candidate in the Department of Integrative Biology.
