Tune in to The Graduates this Tuesday, 8/31 @ 9AM, for an interview with Nina Sokolov from the Department of Integrative Biology. Nina collects bees in the Sierras to try to figure out how viruses move between native and non-native species. She’s just completed a long field season, and now she plans to spend time in the lab analyzing the virus samples she’s collected. When she’s not in the field or in the lab, she uses art to teach people about her research. She’s created coloring pages to raise awareness about different bee species, and she’s currently working with the Biota project to create educational zines for incarcerated individuals. Listen to the interview to hear about her research and her outreach projects as well as what you can do to help native California bees.
The Graduates, featuring graduate student research at Cal, is broadcast every other Tuesday on KALX 90.7 FM. Past episodes are available to listen and download free on iTunes or online. This episode of The Graduates is hosted by Andrew Saintsing, a PhD candidate in the Department of Integrative Biology.
