Join DJ Donut Monoxide on Saturday, May 11th @ 1pm to hear her recent conversation with Álvaro del Norte and Keli Rosa of Piñata Protest.
Founded in 2006 by accordionist Álvaro del Norte, Piñata Protest is Tex-Mex punk; the result of the clash of del Norte’s punk music of his teens and the traditional folk rhythms of Tex-Mex music (Conjunto and Norteño) Piñata Protest grew up with in San Antonio Texas. It’s as if Los Tigres del Norte and Esteban Steve Jordan mixed with Los Crudos and the Pogues. Simply put: it’s punk rock just like abuela used to make!
Piñata Protest just finished a tour with Acidez and Total Chaos, and will tour Europe in the fall. Tune in to hear the band discuss their music, influences, the accordion and the growing recognition of Chicanos and Latinos in numerous musical genres.
Piñata Protest’s latest musical release is a limited edition 45, Taking This Ride / Lado-a-Lado is available for pre-order on the band’s website.
