Tune in to The Graduates this Tuesday @ 9AM for an interview with Sara Kahanamoku from the Department of Integrative Biology. Sara is a historical ecologist who studies subfossils, the remains of organisms that died in the recent past. Specifically, they’re looking at how populations of single-celled organisms in the Santa Barbara Basin have changed in the past two centuries, during California’s rapid population growth. Sara also discusses the role that their cultural background as a Native Hawaiian has played in shaping them into the scientist they are today.

The Graduates, featuring graduate student research at Cal, is broadcast every other Tuesday on KALX 90.7 FM. Past episodes are available to listen and download free on iTunes or online. This episode of The Graduates is hosted by Andrew Saintsing, a PhD candidate in the Department of Integrative Biology.
