Ness & Desolation Girl recently sat down with singer/guitarist/songwriter, Evan Dando of The Lemonheads, when he passed through the Bay Area for a show at The Swedish American Hall in SF. Tune in on Saturday, April 27th @ 2pmto grab a glimpse inside the fascinating brain of the long standing Boston musician.
Since they were formed in 1986 by Evan Dando, the family tree of The Lemonheads has had many twisted tentacles and tangential branches, and a host of one-liners etched into its bark. Anyone could be a Lemonhead but for how long who knows? Leastways they’ll be shoulder-to-shoulder with Evan throwing discordant chords against alt-country-tinged melodies, playing that light and dark card.
Dando re-surfaced in 2003 with the beautifully sweet Baby I’m Bored. Mature and autobiographical, Dando’s first solo studio effort to shine is a stellar record that stripped him of his grunge label. At the time of recording, he was without the band which saw him lean more towards an achingly melodic alt-country rock sound.
In 2023 The Lemonheads returned with brand new single ‘Fear Of Living/Seven Out’, a reflective upbeat slice of perfect pop with a grittier Evan at the helm and a riff that’s plucked from the very heart of rock ‘n’ roll. Playing all the instruments on the recording, the new single was recorded and produced by Apollo Noveat A9 Audio in São Paulo, Brazil. ‘Fear Of Living’ was written by the late Dan Lardner of QTY and Evan Dando. Dan was a close friend of Evan’s who passed in June of 2023. Evan is also currently working on the first Lemonheads songs since 2006.
