Join the Berkestir on Tuesday, October 15th at 4pm for a wide-ranging interview with a troubadour of immense wit, style, and originality…the singer-songwriter, Robyn Hitchcock.
They discuss his new album 1967: Vacations in the Past (Tiny Ghost Records), a collection of covers from 1967 (with one original song by Robyn, the title track) recorded to accompany his memoir, 1967: How I Got There and Why I Never Left. The album features covers of the Small Faces (Ronnie Lane’s Itchycoo Park), the Kinks, the Move, Procol Harum, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd, and others.
As a young man at Winchester College, the music of 1967 embodied a fast changing world and made him what he is today. The interview took place in the green room of Sweetwater Music Hall on Sunday, October 6th before his appearance that night with his SF band that includes Kelley Stoltz on sitar, percussion and vocals, Rusty Miller on keyboards, Dr. Pete Straus on guitar, and Emma Swift, vocals.
Hitchcock had two appearances at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 24, one on the intimate Horseshoe Hill Stage reading from his new memoir and playing an acoustic set with his partner Emma Swift and later at the larger Swan Stage with his full band.
Robyn Hitchcock led the Soft Boys in the late 70s, led his band The Egyptians (1984-93) and Venus 3 and launched a prolific solo career. He’s now based in East Nashville with his partner Emma Swift.
