SLEEPBOMB INTERVIEW
Tune in Tuesday, October 29th at 1:30pm to hear Your Mom interview Tim Gotch of local band Sleepbomb ahead of their show at The Roxie on Halloween, as part of San Francisco’s Psyched! Fest.
Sleepbomb (Koolarrow Records) is a psychedelic doom band, with soundscapes ranging from heavy doom riffs to dreamy shoegaze, dark soundscapes punctuated with shimmering guitar and ethereal vocals. Originally stylistically close to a chaotic version of Throbbing Gristle vs Black Sabbath, Sleepbomb has been exploring experimental sounds and forms, guided by the band’s love of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Coil, Neurosis, Sunn 0))), Ulver and Swans, among others.
Actively looking forward to their January 2025 release of their new full-length album, “The Sleeping Dead: excerpts from an alternate score for George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead!,”Sleepbomb has recently released two singles for this promotion (It Was A Good Idea [out Sept. 6th] || Cemetery Song [out Oct. 4th]).
KALX Mourns the Loss of Michael Henning, known as Megasoup on air.
The KALX community is still reeling from the tragic news about Michael Henning, known as Megasoup on the airwaves. We are all grieving this tremendous loss. Michael originally came to KALX in 2003 and was one the most thoughtful, diligent, kindhearted, and wildly knowledgeable DJs, volunteers, and Music Directors we ever had the pleasure of working with at the station. Michael touched the lives of countless volunteers, colleagues, community members, students, and fellow musicians and DJs. He was also a buyer at Amoeba in Berkeley for over 20 years and an expert in World Music. He was deeply invested in keeping the diverse and eclectic sound of KALX alive and inspired DJs of all tastes and backgrounds to expand their knowledge. Michael was also a musician and released music as Selaroda (solo project), Skyminds (duo), and The Why Because. Michael meant so much to so many people in this community of music lovers. Please follow KALX on our Instagram and Facebook accounts where we have been encouraging those who knew Michael to share their memories with each other and with us. Please stay tuned to our social media accounts for further tributes our DJS are planning in order to honor our beloved Megasoup. Much love from the KALX Family. Our heart goes out to those closest to him. ❤️ You can find Megasoup’s Spinitron profile here and his Mixcloud here. His Daily Cal obituary can be found here.

Donate Food to KALX!
Dear Friends of Community Radio:
The annual KALX Radio fundraiser is fast approaching! KALX is UC Berkeley’s student and community run radio station, broadcasting at 90.7 FM to the Bay Area for over 61 years and providing a meaningful alternative to commercial radio.
As a volunteer-run station, KALX’s operating budget is primarily raised through our annual fundraiser which will run from Monday, April 15th through Wednesday, April 24th.
We are asking if your business would be willing to feed our many fundraiser volunteers and the DJs on air. By contributing to our fundraiser, your business will benefit from:
- ON-AIR PUBLICITY: We thank businesses for sponsoring the fundraiser and mention their address over the air. Reach anywhere between 2000-5000 local listeners!
- TAX DEDUCTION: We are a non-profit organization and can provide a receipt of your contribution for tax deductible purposes as allowable by law.
Anything you can provide would be greatly appreciated! If you would like to feed our volunteers working the phones, food does not have to “look” especially good, so day-olds or damaged goods are happily accepted.
KALX is a valuable community resource that can only continue to provide our unique listening experience with the support of the people we serve.
If you would like to support our fundraiser or have any questions, please contact us at (510) 642-1111 or by email at fundraiser@kalx.berkeley.edu. No donation is too small! We can send you our official donation letter with our tax ID information.
KALX is a big supporter of the local and campus community and we would love the opportunity to highlight businesses who support us on air.
Thank you for considering donating to us!
Email us at fundraiser@kalx.berkeley.edu or call us at 510-642-1111 and ask to speak to Andi Rusk, Operations Supervisor
